Raised in Byron Bay, Vanessa developed an early commitment to artmaking that initially led to a career in Graphic Design in Australia and the UK. She now holds separate tertiary qualifications in Graphic Design, Visual Arts and School Education. Having such a varied professional background, creative expression and and play has always informed her practices, from teaching at primary state schools, to running her own small creative business.

Vanessa now splits her time between employment at the Queensland Art Gallery, painting in her home studio and every so often, running a private art class.

In addition to her employment and studio practice, Vanessa is the founder of Artfolk, a creative community that has brought hands-on creative workshops to thousands of emerging makers in SE Queensland since 2014. Her passion for teaching and nurturing creativity has enriched the artistic journeys of many participants, encouraging self-expression and skill development in a supportive environment.
